“To serve Tayabas is to honor its past and shape its future — one story, one smile, one visitor at a time.”
— Councilor Ana Cristina R. Obispo
When newly elected City Councilor Ana Cristina R. Obispo took her oath as a member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tayabas City last July 2025, she carried with her a renewed sense of purpose — a commitment to bring heart and heritage to the forefront of public service.
Now serving as Chairperson of the Committee on Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Archives, Museum and Libraries, Councilor Obispo is determined to weave together the city’s rich cultural tapestry with fresh, forward-looking ideas.
“Tayabas is a treasure trove of stories, flavors, and traditions waiting to be rediscovered,” she shared. “My goal is to make every Tayabasin proud of our heritage and every visitor inspired to return.”

Vision Rooted in Culture, Driven by Innovation
Councilor Obispo envisions a Tayabas tourism sector that is inclusive, sustainable, and deeply cultural — one that not only generates income for the city but also strengthens the people’s connection to their roots.
Her vision statement sets a clear direction:
“To make Tayabas the cultural heartbeat of Quezon Province — where history breathes through every street, flavor, and festivity, creating meaningful experiences for both locals and visitors.”
She sets her eyes on some legislative priorities focused on:
- Revitalization of Heritage Tourism Programs through digital archives and interactive museum exhibits to tell Tayabas’ story in engaging ways.
- Community-Based Tourism Initiatives that empower barangays to host eco-tours, culinary trails, and local craft fairs.
- Culinary Tourism Promotion, spotlighting native delicacies like pancit habhab, lambanog, and kakanin, turning every meal into a cultural experience.
- Hotel and Resort Engagement Programs that encourage collaboration with the LGU in curating heritage-themed travel packages.
“We must marry the old with the new — preserve what is beautiful in our past while creating fresh experiences that speak to today’s travelers,” she emphasized.

Revisiting Old Tourism Initiatives with a New Heart
During her initial visit to the City Tourism Office, Councilor Obispo found inspiration in the dedication of local tourism staff and the wealth of opportunities waiting to be exhausted.
She noted that existing tourism programs—while effective in the past—can be reinvigorated through creative legislation and inter-office cooperation. Her proposals include:
- Upgrading visitor centers and tourism signage with digital QR codes to access historical facts instantly.
- Strengthening city archives and museums through digitization and improved public accessibility.
- Institutionalizing cultural and culinary festivals to showcase Tayabas’ artistry, inviting participation from schools and local artisans.
These improvements, she believes, will bridge the city’s proud traditions with contemporary tourism appeal, helping Tayabas reclaim its position as a cultural gem in Southern Luzon.
“Tourism is not only about destinations — it’s about identity,” Councilor Obispo remarked.
“Every old street, every local dish, and every festival has a story worth telling anew.”
The Power of Collaboration
Councilor Obispo underscores that tourism progress depends on collaboration. She points to the essential partnership between the legislative department and the Office of the City Mayor, led by Mayor Anthony A. Lim, whose long-standing support for tourism and culture continues to shape Tayabas’ development agenda.
“The synergy between the City Council and the Mayor’s Office is essential,” she noted. “Tourism is not a one-office endeavor; it is a citywide mission that requires shared vision and teamwork.”
Her committee aims to work closely with the executive branch, local businesses, schools, and civic groups to craft a unified tourism framework that balances economic growth with cultural preservation.

Tourism as a Pathway to Progress
Councilor Obispo believes that a thriving tourism sector can bring wide-ranging benefits to Tayabas — from increased local government revenue and livelihood opportunities to a stronger sense of community pride.
She envisions tourism as an engine for inclusive development, where every visit leaves a positive mark on the city’s economy and its people.
“Every guest who visits Tayabas contributes to our progress — whether by tasting our food, staying in our hotels, or sharing their stories of our city,” she shared. “Tourism is not just about places; it’s about people.”
A Journey of Heart and Service
As she begins this new chapter, Councilor Obispo embraces both the challenges and opportunities that come with public service. For her, leadership is about listening, learning, and leading with compassion.
“I am here to learn, to listen, and to lead with compassion,” she said with a smile. “Tourism is not only my committee — it is my passion, my promise, and my purpose for Tayabas.”
Her journey as a budding city legislator is more than just a role — it’s a mission to serve the people of Tayabas with heart, ensuring that the city’s culture, history, and beauty continue to shine for generations to come. (JRS)
