Mayor Anthony “Piwa” A. Lim and City First Lady Minda Lim proudly lead the Tayabas City delegation during the CALABARZON Regional Athletic Association Meet opening ceremonies in Batangas City.
Mayor Lim emphasized the city’s commitment:
“Providing our athletes with the right support is not just about winning medals—it’s about uplifting their spirit and showing them that LGU Tayabas and the City itself stand behind them.”
Legislative Measures for Athlete Welfare
Councilor Janne Phaula A. Nadres highlighted a timely legislative initiative aimed at easing the financial strain on families of athletes. The measure seeks to cover tournament fees, travel expenses, and daily living costs, ensuring that no athlete is left behind due to financial limitations. She is now in the midst of proposing an ordinance that will prioritize grassroots development thru material and technical support to the young athletes of Tayabas.

“Athletes must be equipped with the right footwear, uniforms, and training tools to perform at their best. Quality gear is not a luxury—it’s a necessity.”
Sports Character and Youth Leadership
Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Ren Miguel S. Obdianela reminded the delegation of the deeper essence of sports:
“Beyond medals, sports build character—teaching discipline, resilience, and teamwork that shape us into better citizens.”

Sangguniang Panlungsod members graciously joined Mayor Piwa Lim on the parade trail.
Resilience of Batang Tayabasin Athletes
The Tayabas athletes, fondly called Batang Tayabasin, have long been known for their resilience. Time and again, they rise to the occasion, representing the city with pride and bringing home medals and accolades. Mayor Lim captured this spirit perfectly:
“Tayabasins are motivated, confident, and in control—always maintaining high performance under pressure or adversity.”
Participation in sports not only molds athletes into champions but also shapes their behavior, discipline, and sense of community. It fosters a caring climate where athletes learn to value teamwork, respect, and perseverance—qualities that extend beyond the playing field. The Tayabas City athletes’ unity and motivation continue to be strengthened by Mayor Lim’s sports projects and plans. These initiatives influence their top-caliber performance and reinforce the city’s vision of excellence in athletics. (jrs)
